Cheneice Rushin never imagined her life would lead her to construction. As a mother of two, she had spent years devoted to raising her sons. But as they grew up and moved forward in their own lives, she found herself at a crossroads—an empty nester looking for a new purpose, a new challenge, and a new beginning.

With no prior knowledge or experience in construction, Cheneice took a leap of faith and joined Positive Workforce. She wasn’t just looking for a job; she was looking for transformation. Determined to make the most of the opportunity, she showed up every day, never missing a class, pushing herself to learn and excel.

Through Positive Workforce, she completed rigorous training in OSHA and Site Safety, Carpentry, Plumbing, and Electrical Skilled Trades. What once felt like an unfamiliar world soon became a place of confidence and capability. Each skill she mastered brought her closer to a future she had never envisioned but now fully embraced.

Then came the moment that changed everything—her first prevailing wage job as a Plumber’s Helper/Junior Mechanic. Through the support of Positive Workforce and the Lowe’s Foundation, she stepped onto a worksite, not just as a trainee but as a professional in her own right.

Looking back, Cheneice sees more than just a new career; she sees an opportunity to build a future; for herself, her family, and others who may not yet realize what’s possible.

“Thank you to Positive Workforce and Lowe’s Foundation for providing our communities with a chance to change our lives, provide for our families, and become role models for the future.”   – Cheneice Rushin, 2024 Skilled Trade Training Graduate.
